Calculate your birth chartWhat is a birth chart?
A birth chart, also called a natal chart or natal map, is a symbolic representation of the sky as seen from the exact place and moment you were born. In simple terms it is a unique astronomical snapshot: the position of the Sun, the Moon, the planets and the sensitive points of the sky drawn onto a circle divided into twelve zodiac signs and twelve houses.
Unlike the horoscope you read in a magazine, which groups hundreds of millions of people into twelve bins by Sun sign, a birth chart is individual. Two people born on the same day in the same city but two hours apart will have different charts: the Ascendant can change signs, the Moon can move to a new sign, the layout of the houses shifts. That is why a well-calculated birth chart needs all three birth facts, not only the date.
In practice, a birth chart is used as a tool for self-knowledge. It is not a deterministic prediction or an oracle that decides your life. It is a symbolic language with thousands of years of tradition behind it, inviting you to look at yourself from new angles: your core drive (the Sun), your emotional world (the Moon), the way you meet the world (the Ascendant), how you love, how you think, how you fight. The real value is that it gives you new vocabulary to describe yourself.
How we calculate your birth chart
To generate your birth chart we need three facts: the exact date of birth, the most precise time you have, and the city where it happened. With that information the system geolocates the place, resolves the correct historical time zone (which matters more than people realize, since countries changed zones many times across the twentieth century) and computes planetary positions using modern astronomical ephemerides, the same ones professional observatories rely on.
The houses, the twelve divisions of the sky that mark life areas such as identity, money, partnerships, work, home and so on, are computed with the Placidus system, by far the most common in contemporary Western astrology. The Ascendant, the Midheaven and the other angles are derived from the combination of time of birth and geographic coordinates.
Nothing is faked. If your birth time is correct, your birth chart is astronomically exact: you can cross-check planetary positions with any professional software and the degrees will match. The difference between our service and a reading with a professional astrologer is not in the data, it is in the style of the interpretation.
What a birth chart reveals
Every birth chart is read in layers. The most important place to start is with the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant, what the tradition calls your "big three":
- Sun: your essential identity, what you orient toward, your conscious will. It is the sign most people know, because it is the only one you can read without any calculation.
- Moon: your emotional world, what you need in order to feel at home, how you process feeling, what makes you feel safe. Often the most intimate layer of the chart.
- Ascendant: the way you meet the world, the body you move through life in, the first impression you give. It depends on the exact time of birth.
Then come the personal planets, which rule specific areas of experience: Mercury your way of thinking and communicating, Venus how you love and what you find beautiful, Mars your engine of action and desire. These are the planets you feel most clearly day to day.
The social planets, Jupiter and Saturn, speak to your relationship with expansion and structure: where life invites you to grow, and where it asks for discipline and real commitment. The transpersonal planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, move so slowly that they mark whole generations, but their position by house in your chart shows where those collective themes land in your personal life.
The twelve houses complete the map. Each house represents a territory of experience: the first house is your identity, the second your resources, the seventh significant partnerships, the tenth your public vocation, and so on. The planets that fall in each house activate that territory with their particular energy. A Mars in the tenth house is lived very differently from a Mars in the fourth.
Birth chart vs horoscope: they are not the same
This is the single most common confusion. The daily or weekly horoscope in a magazine or app uses one data point: your Sun sign. It is a generic reading aimed at hundreds of millions of people, built as entertainment rather than as a tool for self-knowledge. Fun to pass the time with, less useful for actually understanding yourself.
A birth chart, by contrast, is yours alone. It uses your three birth facts and combines ten planets, twelve signs, twelve houses and the geometric aspects between them. That is why two people of the same Sun sign can have radically different personalities: the Sun is one layer, but their Moon, their Ascendant and the rest of the map are unique.
Birth chart FAQ
Is my birth chart really free? +
Yes. The Lite tier gives you the full chart: Sun, Moon, Ascendant and the ten planets calculated with real astronomy, no card, no sign-up for ongoing access. If you want deeper readings by house, by aspect and in narrative form, there are Express and Premium tiers as a one-time payment. We never run subscriptions.
What if I do not know my exact birth time? +
You can still generate your birth chart. The Sun and most planets barely move during a day, so they stay accurate. The Moon and the Ascendant depend on the time, so without it we treat them as approximate and flag them in the reading. If you ever recover the exact time, you can regenerate the chart.
Can I share my birth chart? +
Yes. Each chart has a unique link you can send to anyone. You can also download it as a PDF to keep or print. Your personal information stays inside that private link and is not exposed anywhere else on the site.
Does a birth chart predict the future? +
No, and anyone who promises that is overselling. A birth chart is a self-knowledge tool: a snapshot of the sky at the moment and place you were born, read as a symbolic language. Nobody writes your life for you.
Is astrology a science? +
The astronomy behind the calculation is: real planetary positions, modern ephemerides, correct time zones. The interpretation is a symbolic tradition several thousand years old. We give you the base calculated with rigor and leave the meaning you take from it up to you.
